Keep
It
Simple
Stupid
This has to be by far the best advice I've ever learned in the many years walking the mountains
To simplify any process to its least common denominator creates a far easier understanding of any topic and survival isn't any different
Simplicity is the name of the game, take the most trying process and find those steps you can take out of the equation, the superficial that doesn't have any meaning any way except to make someone happy they've over invented the wheel
One could try learning all their is to know before taking that fateful step into the unknown, but you end up losing the best part of your life preparing with theory instead of just pulling up your boot straps, start small and learn as you go
Volumes of information have been published on the best shape of a knife, which lighter/matches/flint striker, boots, clothing, tents, flashlights, and the list goes on into what seems into eternity on the newest, latest greatest gadget to cure all and end all
It gets quite silly when one stops and things about it
The best tool you can take besides your brain and some imagination is what you have on you
For 10-12,000 years those who lived on this continent before us had the bare essentials, and only what was on hand, they seemed to fare very well with out the trappings of the modern societies
I've spent the greater part of my life trying to find a shelter system that could be carried in the bottom of a pack for those just in case moments
Even after the idea popped into my head a few years ago, it has taken this long to get everything perfected to a point where it could be utilized any where, plus meet other demands, such as signaling, water collection, and a few more we haven't talked about yet
Survival on its truest sense means becoming so comfortable in your surroundings you just flow as someone settling down in front of the TV for the evening
